Passionate About Finding a Cure for Diabetes:
Community Unites for Local Walk

Welcome!

Local entertainers, bankers, doctors, clergymen, and Chamber members, to name a few, will all pull together to make the 2010 Litchfield County Walk to Cure Diabetes event a success. More than 600 Litchfield County residents—from toddlers to seniors—are expected to represent local family groups, schools, corporations, and community organizations to
support the Litchfield County Walk.

The event is set for Sunday, September 12, 2010 at White Memorial Conservation Center in
Litchfield. Onsite registration and check-in begins at 8:30 a.m., and the walk kicks off at 10:00 a.m. with an opening ceremony. The event will run until noon. The goal of the Walk is to raise over $100,000 in support of JDRF-funded research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications.

In addition to the scenic two-mile walk, participants will experience a fun-filled atmosphere with music, food and activities for children.
Will You Walk With Me?
My name is Mikayla and I live in Torrington. When I was 18 months old I was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. This is a disease I will have my entire life if a cure is not found, and I will not outgrow it. I wear an insulin pump 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The pump requires me to have tubing in my back to deliver the insulin because my pancreas doesn't work. Everyone thinks I am brave but I don't have a choice. I wish every day for a cure. Scientists are working very hard to find a cure. But research costs money. To help, my family participates in the Walk to Cure Diabetes which raises funds to support this research.

Please come and walk for me and the many people in Litchfield County that need your help. Join my team, Mikayla's Marchers of Hope, or form your own.
